I'm Ammara Fatima, a UX Designer specializing in research and interaction design, based in New York.
My path started in architecture, where five years of designing for people in physical spaces made me realize something - more than structure and aesthetics, the most important part of any design is actually the person moving through it. I'm applying the same design thinking in UX.
Currently consulting for clients at Pratt's Center for Digital Experiences and pursuing my Master's in Information Experience Design at Pratt Institute.
When I began studying architecture, I didn’t realize what it truly consisted of. My understanding quickly shifted from designing places to designing spaces for people. Over the five years, I noticed a pattern. In every project I worked on, I was most drawn to the ideation phase. Questioning, exploring possibilities, understanding needs, and finally shaping solutions that people would actually use and value.
That’s when I realized my design thinking was deeply rooted in empathy.
Understanding users, their contexts, and their needs became central to how I approached problems, and it was then I truly understood what user-centered design means.
This interest eventually led me to UX Design.
When designing for spaces didn't fix the itch and end my curiosity, I realized how much more can be done with design in the digital realm without the constraints of physicality. This sparked an interest in User Experience Design, and brought me here! At Pratt, I'm constantly learning new things! Learning new skills has been super interesting, but my love for ideating is still the same.
